Top Box Office Grossers: Fourth Week of September 2009

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 25 September-1 October 2009. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs held onto the top spot on the charts, gobbling up another $30.3 million, for a two-week total of $65.7 million. Disney’s new android film Surrogates opened at #2, bringing in $19.0 million. Horror flick Pandorum opened at #5, scaring up $5.9 million. Animated post-apocalyptic flick 9 fell from #6 to #9 (but with three new films opening this week, that’s still pretty good), earning $3.8 million, for a three-week total of $28.0 million.
The Final Destination slipped from #10 to #13, grossing $1.8 million, for a five-week total of $65.0 million. District 9 slipped only from #13 to #14, bringing in $1.5 million, for a seven-week total of $113.9 million. Sorority Row fell from #9 to #15, taking in $1.4 million, for a three-week total of $11.0 million. GI Joe slipped from #15 to #16, grabbing $1.1 million, for an eight-week total of $147.7 million. Gamer fell from #14 to #18, grossing $750 thousand, for a four-week total of $20.4 million. The Time Traveler’s Wife slipped from #16 to #19, earning $725 thousand, for a seven-week total of $61.9 million.
Halloween II, last week’s #17 film, fell all the way out of the top 25 in its fifth week in release. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, last week’s #23, fell out of the top 25 in its eleventh week in the theatres. G-Force, last week’s #25, also fell this week, its tenth.
