Barry R. Levin, of Barry R. Levin Science Fiction & Fantasy Literature, has started a film production company with Nesa Weir. The new company is called Science Fiction Fantasy Films, Inc. or sfffilms. The new firm already has
three film projects in development.
Levin tells SFScope “It’s too early to talk about the projects under development or distribution. I will say we are very excited about a new script of ours that has been getting raves from the readers who have seen it. So far all our projects are based on original scripts, but we have our eye on some books we would like to option. We are off to a great start.”
Barry R. Levin Science Fiction & Fantasy Literature was founded in 1973, and is “one of the world’s leading dealers in rare and first editions of science fiction, fantasy, and horror with a strong emphasis on autographs, manuscripts, literary correspondence, and original art.” The physical store is in Santa Monica, California.
That’s excellent. A lot of seminal fantasy and science fiction could be done inexpensively, and with today’s computers spfx would not be out of reach. A friend and I once tried to option MZB’s “Seven from the Stars,” but the copyright holders were looking for a big-budget Hollywood production, so we were SOL.
