Co-editor Frank Ludlow writes to give us an update on Albedo One‘s International Aeon Award.
“We have announced the additions to the shortlist of the Aeon Award 2009 contest after the third round of consideration, which ran from the start of July to the end of September. This time we have added seven stories, bringing the shortlist to a total of 18. The titles of the seven new stories (as always, they keep the author’s names off the stories to ensure impartiality of judging) are:
“Hancock Park”
“The Girl in the Blue Bikini”
“Once, When the Sun Rose in the West”
“Deconstruction”
“Glory”
“Conversion”
“All the Beautiful Lights of Heaven”
“The contest is now in its final round, which ends 30 November. The judges will add whatever stories they feel to be of merit from this round early in December, and will then debate long into the night about which six stories are the best from the entire shortlist. These six stories will be announced by Christmas, and will go to Grand Judge Ian Watson for the final decision (hopefully early January). The Grand Prize is €1000 and publication in Albedo One, with the second and third place stories receiving €200 and €100 and publication in the magazine.”
Full details on the contest and the magazine are available on the Albedo One web site. Founded in 1993, Albedo Oneis “Ireland’s longest-running and foremost magazine of the Fantastic.”
