Catherynne M. Valente offering her first YA novel for donations

Catherynne M. Valente, like most of us in these difficult economic times, is having financial difficulties. Unlike many of us, she has some talent, and is putting it (along with this growing thing we call the internet) to use, trying to make up the financial short-falls. To wit, she’s writing the “novel within the novel” The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making, which was mentioned, but not written, in her novel Palimpsest.
Every Monday, starting today, she’ll be posting chapters of this new novel as she writes them. As she says, “It will be free to read—but please know that the sheer calories to make my brain create it require funding, and I would very much appreciate your support. Pay whatever you like for it, whatever you think it’s worth. It’s kind of like an old-fashioned rent party.” She adds “and yes, you can read it to your kids. This is my first available YA novel, and everyone can read it for free.”
