Top Box Office Grossers: Second Week in April

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 10-16 April 2009. A tween concert and a car race took the top two spots. The top genre film for the third week was Monsters vs. Aliens, which this week slipped from #2 to #3, bringing in $31.4 million, for a three-week total of $149.8 million. Knowing slipped from #4 to #5, earning $8.9 million, for a four-week total of $70.2 million. The Haunting in Connecticut fell from #3 to #7, grossing $8.2 million, for a three-week total of $48.8 million. New release Dragonball Evolution opened at #8, taking in $6.2 million.
Race to Witch Mountain slipped from #8 to #11, taking in another $2.9 million, for a five-week total of $63.0 million. The Last House on the Left was down from #12 to #15, grossing $800 thousand, for a five-week total of $31.9 million. Watchmen also slipped, from #13 to #16, earning $800 thousand, for a six-week total of $106.6 million. Coraline is also hanging on, but this week was down from #19 to #24, and bringing in $300 thousand, for a ten-week total of $74.6 million.
Push, which last week climbed back into the top 25, this week again fell off the list. It’s been in the theatres for ten weeks.
