Just in case you didn’t get enough of the Farscape comic (with the first three issues selling out and being reprinted), publisher BOOM! Studios is now releasing the ultimate collector’s must-have (and we’re not talking about the follow-on series, Farscape: Strange Detractors, which debuted last week). The Farscape: Script Book is a 32-page comic-sized book containing creator Rockne S. O’Bannon’s story outline for the four-issue Farscape comic series which just ended. Lavishly illustrated by Tommy Patterson, the book opens with O’Bannon’s letter to the publisher describing what he has written here, nothing that “I just kind of let the story and images flow,” and recognizing that cutting, adding, and serious modification will be necessary.
If you’ve already read the comics, there isn’t a lot of new story here for you. But it is interesting to see the genesis of the story writer Keith R.A. DeCandido turned into the script.
And for those who didn’t realize it, Farscape: Strange Detractors debuted as the follow-on comic series, again with two covers. On this one, O’Bannon and DeCandido are both credited as writers, with Will Sliney getting the “drawn by” credit. This one picks up “After the events on Hyneria, the crew of Moya find themselves in the midst of a new, mysterious menace. But the crew will learn that their greatest enemies might just be themselves!” As with the others, this 24-page book is available for $3.99.
