Dell Magazines Award for Undergraduate Excellence in SF/F Writing

Josh Eure—a senior at North Carolina State University and a student of John Kessel’s—won this year’s Dell Magazines Award for Undergraduate Excellence in Science Fiction and Fantasy Writing, for his short story “We Were Real.” The award, sponsored by Dell Magazines, was presented Asimov’s Science Fiction Editor Sheila Williams at the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts‘s Conference on the Fantastic. Eure received the $500 prize and an expense-paid trip to the Orlando conference.
Runners up this year were: Sarah Miller of Bard College at Simon’s Rock, for her short story “The Best and Bitt’rest Kiss” (first runner up); Maggie Morgan of North Carolina State University, for her story “Suspended” (second runner up).
In addition, there were four Honorable Mentions: Rahul Kanakia of Stanford University, for the short story “Between Dusk and Twilight”; Jeannette Westwood of Stanford University, for the short story “Locked and Keyed”; Elena Gleason of Knox College, for the short story “Aeroplasty”; and Lara Donnelly of Wright State University, for the short story “The Case of the Unassuming Book and the Very Soiled Trousers”.
The deadline for submissions for the 2010 Dell Magazines Award is postmarked or submitted by e-mail by 5 January 2010.
