Zack Snyder’s “Life in Movies” in Newsweek

Filmmaker Zack Snyder is the subject of “A Life in Movies” in the 16 March 2009 issue of Newsweek. As readers of the regular feature know, there is a brief bio of the featured person along with a photo, and then he lists “My Five Most Essential Movies” along with a sentence explaining why each made the list. Snyder’s five include: John Boorman’s Excalibur; The Road Warrior, the first Mad Max movie; A Clockwork Orange; David Lynch’s Blue Velvet; and Paul Verhoeven’s RoboCop. Snyder also offers a film to which he always returns (The Searchers) and a film he hopes parents will show their kids (Hope and Glory).
Snyder made his directorial debut with 2004’s Dawn of the Dead, and then wrote the screenplay for his next directorial outing, 2006’s 300. He directed the recently released Watchmen, and is attached to several upcoming projects, including The Illustrated Man and Cobalt 60.
