The British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards its 2009 BAFTA Awards, but it wasn’t a great night for sf/f/h films.
The genre winners are:
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: Production Design (Donald Graham Burt and Victor J. Zolfo); Special Visual Effects (Eric Barba, Craig Barron, Nathan McGuinness, and Edson Williams); Make Up & Hair (Jean Black and Colleen Callaghan)
The Dark Knight: Supporting Actor (Heath Ledger)
WALL-E: Animated Film
Wallace and Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death: Short Animation (Steve Pegram, Nick Park, and Bob Baker)
It was a pretty good year for genre nominees (with Benjamin Button seemingly everywhere). Other sf/f/h film nominations (which didn’t win) this year include:
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: Best Film, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Leading Actor, Music, Cinematography, Editing, Costume Design
The Dark Knight: Music, Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, Costume Design, Sound, Special Visual Effects, Make Up & Hair
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: Special Visual Effects
Iron Man: Special Visual Effects
Quantum of Solace: Sound, Special Visual Effects
WALL-E: Music, Sound

BAFTA’s mission is to “support, develop, and promote the art forms of the moving image, by identifying and rewarding excellence, inspiring practitioners and benefiting the public.” The British Academy Television Awards will be handed out 26 April 2009.
