Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 2-8 January 2009. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button climbed from #3 last week to #2 this week, grossing $24.3 million for a two-week total of $84.9 million. Switching places with Button, Disney’s Bedtime Stories, dropped from #2 to #3, taking in $23.6 million, for a two-week total of $88.6 million. The Tale of Despereaux was also up this week, from #8 to #7, earning $8.1 million, for a three-week total of $44.9 million. The Day the Earth Stood Still dropped from #7 to #9, grossing $5.0 million, for a four-week total of $75.8 million.
Twilight also had an up week, moving from #14 to #11, taking in $6.3 million, for a seven-week total of $178.6 million. The Spirit fell from #9 to #12, bringing in $4.4 million, for a two-week total of $18.9 million. Bolt slipped from #13 to #14, garnering $3.8 million, for a seven-week total of $110.4 million. Quantum of Solace was down from #17 to #20, earning another $1.5 million, for an eight-week total of $167.2 million.
