Actress Irene Dailey died of colon cancer on 24 September 2008. Born 12 September 1920 in New York City, she won a Daytime Emmy Award for Best Actress in a Daytime Drama Series in 1979. The award came for her role as Liz Matthews on the soap opera Another World, which she played from 1974 to 1986, and again from 1988 to 1994.
Dailey was also a stage and film actress. Most of her Broadway appearances were in flops, but she received acclaim for her role in The Subject was Roses in 1964, playing opposite Jack Albertson and a young Martin Sheen.
Her genre appearances include The Amityville Horror (1979), and an episode of The Twilight Zone (1963).
Dailey never married, and leaves no close survivors. Her seven-years-older brother Dan (who died in 1978) was also a noted song-and-dance man and Hollywood actor.
