Actor House Peters, Jr., died of pneumonia on 1 October 2008. Born Robert House Peters, Jr., on 12 January 1916 in New Rochelle, New York, he’ll probably be best remembered as “Mr. Clean” in the Procter & Gamble commercials for household cleaners.
Announcing his father’s death, Jon Peters said “he always played the heavy. Even though he wasn’t happy about being cast in those roles, he worked really hard at it.”
His Hollywood career ran from 1935 to 1966, and included several genre appearances, including: The Twilight Zone (1960), Target Earth (1954), Port Sinister (1953), Red Planet Mars (1952), The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), King of the Rocket Men (1949), Batman and Robin (1949), and Flash Gordon (1936).
In 2000, he wrote an autobiography, Another Side of Hollywood, about his life growing up the son of an actress and a silent film actor in Beverly Hills. House Peters, Sr., his father, has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Pickett (whom he married in 1946); his two sons, Bob and Job; daughter Kathy; and four grandchildren.
