Two weeks down, two to go. We’ve now given away four copies of the Masters of Science Fiction DVD set, and have only six left. We’ll give away three this week, and three next week. Again to enter, all you have to do is comment on a recent article on SFScope (or, for the terminally shy, drop us an e-mail using the “Contact Us” link above). Our two winners this week are Rob Davies and Steven H. Silver. Congratulations!
So what is this DVD, you ask? Well, on 5 August, the complete critically acclaimed Masters of Science Fiction anthology series was released on DVD as a 2-disc set. The Masters of Science Fiction DVD contains the entire series—including the world premiere of the two episodes that were never aired! Originally broadcast last year on ABC, Masters of Science Fiction adapted short stories from some of the genre’s greatest practitioners, including Robert A. Heinlein, Harlan Ellison, Robert Sheckley, and John Kessel. Mark Dawidziak of the Cleveland Plain Dealer wrote: “I’ve seen what may be the best futuristic anthology series since the glory days of The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits. It’s called Masters of Science Fiction.” SFScope, too, was entranced by the shows, and you can read our reviews on these pages: “A Clean Escape”, “The Awakening”, “Jerry Was a Man”, and “The Discarded”.
Now, in partnership with Big Honcho Media, SFScope is giving away six more copies of the $29.97 DVD set. This week, as last, you can get in the running to win a copy by commenting on a recent article on the site (anonymous comments, though always accepted, may cause your entry to be ignored—make sure you give us your e-mail address when you comment, so we can contact you if you win). All comments received this week will enter their writers into the drawing, which will be on Friday 22 August. We’ll randomly pick three winners from all the comments we receive by 21 August, another three winners after the close on 28 August.
In addition to the four aired episodes, the two unaired episodes, which are on the DVD, are:
“Watchbird”, based on a story by Robert Sheckley, written by J. Michael Straczynski and Sam Egan, directed by Harold Becker, and starring Sean Astin and James Cromwell.
“Little Brother”, based on a story by and written by Walter Mosley, directed by Damell Martin, and starring Clifton Collins, Jr. and Kimberly Elise.
For even more info on the series, hosted by Stephen Hawking, see http://www.mastersofscifi.com/site/.
Apologies to our readers outside the US, but Big Honcho can only ship to US addresses.
Okay–I’m commenting on this story in hopes of winning the DVD! Keeping my fingers crossed, and it’s really hard to type that way.
Me want DVD!
I want!
I really enjoyed this series, can’t wait to see the unaired episodes. Pick me Pick me …
I wonder if we ought to do something like this for “I Remember the Future”…
OK. I’ll try, too.
In it to win it.
I saw some of the episodes, they were very good, I would love to win them, it would be a great addition to any DVD collection.
Rather than comment on an individual article, I’d like to talk about the value of having a daily update on what’s going on in the science fiction field. Knowing who is publishing what and who is filming what is news worth having — and to an aspiring writer, knowing who is buying what is even more valuable. I’d say that SFScope is a prime example of the whole being more than the sum of its parts; and as the science fiction field keeps growing, SFScope will grow more and more valuable.
Most recent articles I felt a personal interest in were the notice of the Klingon Language Institute’s publication of the Tao Te Ching in the origional Klingon Language and the Denvention 3 awards announcements (since I was unable to attend). Can I have my DVD set now? Please? Thank you.
If I don’t win, I’ll probabley buy the set. I really wanted to see “The Departed”. I wish the networks would air another installment. Fear Itself was good, although not as thought-provoking.
Hello Ian & Al!
