Steven H. Silver reports other awards that were handed out at the recently concluded Denvention, this year’s World Science Fiction Convention. In addition to the Hugo Awards, there were:
The First Fandom Awards (which recognize fans who were active in science fiction before the first WorldCon, in 1939). The Hall of Fame Award went to Mike Ashley & Ray Harryhausen. The Posthumous Hall of Fame Award went to Isaac Asimov. And the Sam Moskowitz Archive Award went to Frank Robinson & Bob Peterson.
John Hertz presented the Forrest J. Ackerman Big Heart Award for service to fandom and science fiction. This year’s honoree is Boston fan Suford Lewis.
Chairman Kent Bloom announced that the Denvention committee was awarding two Special Committee Awards. The first was presented in recognition of NASA‘s fiftieth anniversary. The second regonized NESFA Press‘s continuing publication activity.
