Further to this article, in which we announced that creator Rockne S. O’Bannon would be writing the forthcoming Farscape comic book (to be published by Boom! Studios). It turns out O’Bannon has actually written “a detailed plot.” The actual scripting of the books is by Keith R.A. DeCandido.
DeCandido says “the series… will pick up where The Peacekeeper Wars left off, and see Moya’s crew head to Hyneria to try to get Rygel his throne back.” He also says the books will “be consistent with the upcoming Farscape webisodes that will be on SciFi.com.”
The first issue of the four-volume miniseries is scheduled to hit the shelves in November, with the next three following at one-month intervals, “and a trade paperback coming likely next spring.” Art will be by newcomer Tommy Patterson.
DeCandido also announced the issue titles: the first is “Return of the King,” the script for which is complete and awaiting The Jim Henson Company approval. He also says that this week, he finished the script for #2 (“Dungeons and Dominars”) and “sent it off to Rockne for his notes.” The other two titles will be “Yes, That’s Our Baby” and “Hynerian Rhapsody.”
In the “it’s more than a job; it’s an adventure” category, DeCandido writes “I gotta tell you, it’s an absolute thrill to be writing Farscape again, and doing it with Rockne makes it even thrillier (I just made that word up). We’re hoping this is the first of many miniseries.” He’s already written two pieces that appeared in the official Farscape magazine, a role-playing game, and the 2001 novel Farscape: House of Cards.
In addition to Farscape, tie-in expert DeCandido has also written in universes including Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Doctor Who, Supernatural, Xena, and several Marvel superheros. He’s also been a major force in Star Trek publishing this decade.
I’ve never read any of the Farscape tie-ins and can’t say they attract my interest like some others have like Star Wars, Buffy or Star Trek. I wonder how popular they were? If they weren’t then a comic book only adds graphics to stories that may not sell.
