Erotic science fiction publisher Circlet Press is aiming to change a paradigm again, this time with a new line of erotic ebooks. The newest subgenres—erotic steampunk and erotic high fantasy—will start appearing this fall, but with a twist. Publisher Cecilia Tan writes that, unlike print anthologies, which have 15-20 stories in them and retail for $15-$20, each of Circlet’s ebooks will contain 3-6 pieces and will retail for around $5.
“In many ways, this is a return to our roots,” says Tan. “Our first two years in business we published mostly chapbooks of three, four, five stories, at low cost. These ebooks feel a lot like the old days come again.”
The new line will feature titles beginning with the word “Like…” and a common cover design (though in the ebook world it’s not clear if “cover design” carries much meaning). Like Crimson Droplets will explore erotic vampires; Like a Sword erotic high fantasy; and Like a Wisp of Steam will present erotic steampunk.
“The steampunk book has me really jazzed,” says Tan. “There’s always so much rich material to be mined where sexual repression reigns, so taking the Victoriana aspect found in steampunk and bringing out the repressed desires is fertile ground.”
Circlet’s ebooks are available through Amazon’s Kindle store, Fictionwise/Ereader.com, and via direct dowload from Circlet.com. Circlet has been publishing erotic sf/fantasy since 1992.
