CBLDF reschedules cancelled Doctorow-headlined fundraiser

The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF) had to cancel a fundraising event featuring Cory Doctorow in May, due to illness. Now comes word that they’ve rescheduled the event for Thursday 21 August at 7:30PM at the Helen Mills Theater (137-139 West 26 Street, New York, NY 10001). Doctorow and writer/artist/musician Paul Miller (aka D.J. Spooky) will “team up for a multimedia speaking event benefitting the CBLDF. Following their respective presentations, Doctorow and Spooky will take the stage together for an open forum discussion about their work and the futurepresent each eloquently addresses across different media.”
Doctorow will read from and discuss his novel Little Brother, which addresses internet and government security, censorship, and civil liberties in a post-9/11 near-future. Spooky will join Doctorow to present concepts from Sound Unbound: Sampling Digitial Music and Culture, his new book/literary mixtape.
Tickets for the evening are $20.
After the formal program, “DJ Spooky spins a rare small-venue set at Sutra Lounge (16 First Avenue, at First Street). This afterparty also benefits the CBLDF, and admission is $10 or free with a pass from the earlier part of the evening.”

Doctorow says “I’m really proud to have the chance to serve the CBLDF, which is a model for how an imaginative, vibrant civil liberties organization operates. They raise money to bail out comic creators and sellers (and others in the trade) who face legal persecution for making comic books.”
