Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 4-10 July 2008. Hancock, in its first full week in release, zoomed to the top of the charts, grossing nearly $90.8 million for a total take of more than $132 million (last week, having been open only a few days, it was #3 on the list). WALL-E fell from #1 to #2, bringing in nearly $49.6 million for a two-week total of $144.3 million. Wanted fell from #2 to #3, taking in $30.3 million for a two-week total of $100.5 million. Get Smart held steady at #4, taking in $17.4 million for a three-week total of nearly $104.4 million. Kung Fu Panda climbed from #6 to #5, bringing in $11.8 million for a five-week total of $197.7 million. The Incredible Hulk hung on to the #6 spot, grossing $7.6 million for a four-week total of $127.6 million. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull also held steady, at #8, bringing in $5.6 million for a seven-week total of $308.2 million.
The Happening fell from #10 to #12, grossing $2.3 million for a four-week total of $62.9 million. Iron Man was down only from #12 to #13, taking in $2.2 million for a ten-week total of $312.5 million. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian was down from #14 to #15, bringing more than $850 thousand for an eight-week total of $139.1 million. The Strangers fell from #16 to #19, grossing nearly $400 thousand for a six-week total of $52.2 million. Speed Racer popped back into the top 25, after falling out last week. This week, Speed was at #20, taking in nearly $375 thousand for a nine-week total of $43.4 million. Nim’s Island climbed from #24 to #22, earning almost $275 thousand for a fourteen-week total of $47.6 million.
Horton Hears a Who fell from #22 to out of the top 25 in its seventeenth week in reelase.
