Apex Digest moves to the web, raises rates, publishes new issue

Publisher Jason Sizemore announces big changes at Apex Online, which “is where Apex Digest now lives. In print, we’ve managed to grow steadily, but very slowly, into semi-pro rates. I’ve done a lot of looking around, a lot of thinking, and a lot of talking to people who know some stuff. Pro rates matter. Easy to access content matters. It’s all about the stories. That’s why we’re here, and why ‘here’ is now online.”
They’ll be contacting print subscribers soon “so they know what their options are.” And they still plan to publish books on paper (their next scheduled release is Michael A. Burstein’s I Remember the Future, this autumn).
The current issue of Apex Digest, dated 13 July 2008, contains:
“These Days” by Katherine Sparrow (short fiction)
Jodi Lee interviews D.L. Snell
Atomic Rubble: “Has Satan Gone Out of Style?” by Adrienne Jones (book reviews)
Confessions of a Book Junkie: “The Titanic Omar” by Lavie Tidhar
Editorial Dispositions: “Meet the new ‘zine, same as the old ‘zine” by Jason Sizemore
Popped Culture: “$4.00 for a gallon of gas” by Justin Stewart (comic)
Their guidelines have been updated to reflect the fact that they’re now paying five cents a word, on publication.
