Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 13-19 June 2008. New release The Incredible Hulk smashed its way to the #1 spot, taking in $74.9 million in its first week in the theatres. The Hulk knocked Kung Fu Panda, last week’s #1, to the #2 spot. The panda took in $50.2 million for a two-week total of $133.9 million. M. Night Shyamalan’s spooky new film, The Happening opened at #3, grossing $40.3 million in its first week. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull dropped from #4 to #5—a very strong week, with two new movies opening ahead of it—and brought in $20.6 million for a four-week total of $282.4 million. Iron Man was down from #6 to #7, taking in $8.5 million for a seven week total of $300.8 million. That was strong enough to swap places with The Strangers, who fell from #5 to #8, grossing $6.4 million for a three-week total of $47.6 million. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian fell from #7 to #9, bringing in $5.0 million for a five-week total of $133.8 million.
Horton Hears a Who was once again up in the standings, this week climbing from #15 to #14, earning another $325 thousand for a fourteen-week total of $153.5 million. Nim’s Island held steady in the #17 slot, taking in nearly $300 thousand for an eleven-week total of $46.8 million. Speed Racer fell faster, down this week from #13 to #18, grossing more than $250 thousand for a six-week total of $42.6 million.
