Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 30 May-5 June 2008. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull held the #1 spot for only one week, this week falling to #2 behind new opener Sex and the City. Indy brought in $59.3 million in its second week for a total take of more than $230 million. New release The Strangers opened in the #3 slot, grossing $28.4 million. Iron Man was stronger than Prince Caspian: the superhero dropped from #3 to #4, taking in more than $18.7 million for a five-week total of $281.4 million. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian fell from #2 ro #5, bringing in almost $17.7 million for a three-week total of $120.3 million. Speed Racer was down from #5 to #7 spot, grossing $3.2 million for a four-week total of $41.6 million.
After last week’s three-slot jump, Horton Hears a Who again started down, dropping from #11 to #13, bringing in $560 thousand for a twelve-week total of $152.8 million. The Forbidden Kingdom dropped from #12 to #16, grossing $350 thousand, for a seven-week total of $51.8 million. Nim’s Island was down from #15 to #17, taking in almost $350 thousand for a nine-week total of $46.2 million.
Superhero Movie, which fell out of the top 25 in the first week in May, makes a return this week to the #25 spot, grossing $125 thousand for a ten-week total of nearly $25.7 million.
Prom Night appears to have closed, falling completely off the list after seven weeks in release. Last week it was at #20.
10,000 B.C. also fell out of the top 25, for the second time, after thirteen weeks in release. It first fell off the list the first week of May, then made its return the following week.
