Editor and author Nick Mamatas announces that he is “quitting Boston and moving back to the California Bay Area. I’ve accepted an offer from CEO Pikachu for a full-time job editing a new line of Japanese speculative fiction in translation for Viz, LLC. I begin the first Monday of August.”
Mamatas was one of the founders of Clarkesworld magazine. His departure means that the magazine will stop accepting submissions at the end of June. Clarkesworld publisher Neil Clarke says “Fortunately, Nick has several months of fiction booked up, so that gives me adequate time to find his successor.” The closure “has no impact on the stories editor Sean Wallace solicits for his slot.” All fiction acquired remains acquired. All non-fiction assigned remains assigned.
