Top Box Office Grossers: Third Week of May

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 16-22 May 2008. New release The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian was finally able to knock Iron Man out of the top spot. Caspian brought in more than $68 million in its first week in release. Iron Man dropped from #1 to #2 in its third week in release, taking in nearly $40.9 million this week, for a total of $232.2 million. Thursday opener Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull grossed more than $25 million… in it’s first day in release, which was good for the #3 spot! Speed Racer dropped from #3 to #5, grossing $10.0 million for a two-week total of $32.2 million. The Forbidden Kingdom dropped from #8 to #10, grossing $1.5 million, for a five-week total of $50.8 million.
Nim’s Island dropped out of the top ten, from #8 to #12, taking in a little less than $730 thousand for a seven-week total of $45.4 million. Horton Hears a Who held steady at #14, taking in nearly $600 thousand, for a ten-week total of $151.5 million. Prom Night dropped from #11 to #15, grossing just under $550 thousand for a six-week total of $43.6 million. 10,000 B.C. moved back down this week, from #20 to #24, grossing more than $250 thousand for an eleven-week total of $94.4 million.
