Halcyon Company acquires rights to Terminator and Philip K. Dick

New production firm The Halcyon Company has started work on a new trilogy of Terminator films, and has locked up “first-look rights” to all the works of Philip K. Dick. Of more general, immediate interest is Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, which will take place in the future, and star Christian Bale as John Connor leading the fight against the machines. Production on the film began a few weeks ago, and it’s scheduled to be released next year. The producers, and everyone else associated with it, are being very secretive about the details of the movie, including evading the big question: Will Arnold Schwarzenegger appear?
Halcyon co-founders Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek recently told The Guardian about their background and plans. “We were both big Terminator fans, which is why we acquired the franchise,” said Anderson. “We’re approaching it as real fans—what would make us really happy to see in the next Terminator movie?” Prior to founding the company three years ago, Anderson was in marketing and advertising, while Kubicek was an independent film and television writer and producer who, in 2002, became the youngest person to hold a seat on the American Stock Exchange.
Halcyon recently secured first-look rights to the works of writer Philip K. Dick. Through this unprecedented agreement, Halcyon will have the first option to develop in conjunction with Electric Shepherd for film adaptations, as well as television and other media projects, based on Dick’s vast body of works. Though some of his works have been adapted into films such as Blade Runner, Total Recall, and Minority Report, the bulk of his legacy of 44 novels and more than 120 shorter stories remains untapped. “It truly is a treasure trove,” said Kubicek. Halcyon already has plans for two movies, an animated project, and two games based on Dick’s work. “Philip’s daughters have never allowed anyone this kind of access before,” Kubicek said. “We’ve forged a very trusting relationship with them and we truly share a similar sensibility. Until we closed the deal, we didn’t realize how coveted the library was in Hollywood.”
The Halcyon Company is a privately financed, media development, production and financing company, headed by co-CEOs Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek. The company is designed to create, acquire, manage, publish, and maintain the creative integrity of each and every project delivered by The Halcyon Company across traditional and non-traditional channels of distribution.
