Comics artist Gene Colan is suffering from liver failure. Colan’s work has illustrated many of the classics, including Iron Man, Captain America, Dr. Strange, The Tomb of Dracula, Batman, and many others.
Writer/editor Clifford Meth is spearheading a fundraising drive on his blog to help Colan and his family cover the medical bills, because “they have zero pharmaceutical coverage and are paying crippling prices for meds.”
Meth spoke with Colan a few days ago and reports “He was exhausted but very optimistic. Good for Gene! But his wife Adrienne has no illusions. She writes, ‘My darling, sweet, handsome and brilliantly gifted husband’s liver is failing. The complications are very nasty. This week it’s fluid retention and encephalitis. He’s on powerful meds now to diminish the symptoms. He sleeps a lot and has very little energy.”
Meth’s fundraising efforts are taking the form of charity auctions and donations from publishers (Aardwolf, IDW, and Harris Publishing have all joined the cause already). To participate, check out the blog. To donate items for charity auctions, send them to:
