The Lambda Literary Foundation announced the finalists for their 20th annual Lambda Literary Awards. The awards ceremony will be held 29 May in the Silver Screen Theatre at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, California. More than 80 judges (including writers, booksellers, librarians, and professors) chose 107 finalists in 21 categories, based on LGBT content and quality of writing.
The finalists of special interest to sf/f/h readers are in the category of LGBT Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror:
Wicked Gentlemen by Ginn Hale (published by Blind Eye Books)
A Companion to Wolves by Sarah Monette and Elizabeth Bear (Tor Books)
Spaceman Blues: A Love Song by Brian Francis Slattery (Tor Books)
The Dust of Wonderland by Lee Thomas (Alyson Books)
Ha’penny by Jo Walton (Tor Books).
Additionally, Nicola Griffith’s And Now We Are Going to Have a Party is a finalist in the Women’s Memoir/Biography category, and Samuel Delany’s Dark Reflections is a finalist in the Men’s Fiction category.

In addition to the regular awards, three authors will receive Pioneer Awards at the ceremony. The Pioneer Award is given to “those individuals who have broken new ground in the field of LGBT literature and publishing. Established in 1995, the Award honors those who, through their achievements and passionate commitment, have contributed to the LGBT literary community in significant and tangible ways: through works of literature, or by establishing publishing houses, publications, archives, bookstores, or other institutions.” This year’s winners are:
Ann Bannon, known as “The Queen of Pulp Fiction,” who is the author of “The Beebo Brinker Chronicles” (originally published between 1957 and 1962).
Malcolm Boyd, the author of 29 books, including Are You Running with Me, Jesus? and Take Off the Masks.
Mark Thompson, writer of a trilogy dealing with gay spirituality, including Gay Spirit (1987), Gay Soul (1994), and Gay Body (1997).
