Comics publisher Raymond Leblanc dies

Lombard editions announced the death of its co-founder and honorary president Raymond Leblanc on 21 March 2008. Born on 22 May 1915 in the Belgian Ardennes, Leblanc was a member of the French Resistance during World War II. Following the war, he partnered with two friends to form a small publishing on the Rue du Lombard in Brussels. Later in 1945, Leblanc convinced Belgian artist Georges Remi—who worked under the pen name Hergé—to bring his 16-year-old The Adventures of Tintin to Lombard. They built the weekly comics magazine Tintin around it, debuting in 1946. Hergé died in 1983; the magazine survived him by five years.
Lombard has a full obituary in French at this link. Comics Reporter has a good obituary of Leblanc in English at this page. Forbidden Planet published a nice, long interview with Leblanc last June; it’s available at this link. For more on Tintin, see this Wikipedia entry.
