Sharon Lee and Steve Miller have set an end-point for subscriptions to their serialized on-line Liaden Universe novel Fledgling. They’ve been posting the novel in regular chapter/installments for free, requesting donations to keep them writing. The donations exceeded the amount they needed to keep going, and the first draft is now complete. They’ve left the donations window open, however, until 15 March. “Anyone who contributes $25 to the Fledgling project prior to that date will be on the list to receive a trade paper edition of the complete-and-edited book, should one be produced. ” They’ll continue to accept donations after that date, but the only reward then “will be the warm, fuzzy feeling you’ll get by knowing that you’re playing a personal part in feeding the authors’ cats, and the sincere thanks of the authors themselves.”
They plan to leave the draft available on the web, both for reading in its own right, and as backstory for their current online serialization, Saltation which at press time has three chapters available.
Lee and Miller also say to their readers: “Thank you all for your amazing and gratifying support of these projects. We thank you, and our characters thank you. Blessings upon all of your houses!”
