The Gaylactic Spectrum Awards Foundation has finally announced the winners of their 2007 Best Short Fiction and Best Other awards for works from 2006 (the Best Novel winner was announced in October, see this article). The Awards were created in 1999 by The Gaylactic Network, “the premiere organization for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) fans of science fiction, fantasy, and horror, to honor works in SF/F/H that deal positively with gay characters, themes and issues.” The Awards Foundation also works on education and raising awareness of GLBT content in SF/F/H.
There was a three-way tie for the Best Short Fiction Award. The winners are:
* “The Language of Moths” by Christopher Barzak (published in Realms of Fantasy
* “In the Quake Zone” by David Gerrold (Down These Dark Spaceways)
* “Instinct” by Joy Parks (The Future Is Queer)
There was also a three-way tie for Best Other Work. The winners are:
* Torchwood Season 1 (television) by Russell T. Davies et al (BBC)
* The Future Is Queer (anthology) edited by Richard Labonte and Lawrence Schimel (Arsenal Pulp)
* V for Vendetta (film) by James McTeigue et al (Warner Bros)
