Okay, we didn’t comment on Discover Magazine‘s 20 Things You Didn’t Know About… Science Fiction because it wasn’t really newsworthy. It’s a somewhat interesting, somewhat amusing, list of little-known facts and inferences. It didn’t strike us as unique or especially important to the average SFScope reader.
But now it’s getting amusing. The fairly new blog io9, which subtitles itself “strung out on science fiction,” and tends to focus on movies and tv, decided that Discover‘s piece was too stupid to live, and posted a rant entitled Discover Magazine Demonstrates Its Uselessness by “Discovering” Facts About Science Fiction. And rant it is. If you want to climb onto your high horse and declaim loudly that the mundanes are oppressing you, you could do worse than to follow this example.
So far, ho-hum.
But now Discover has responded to io9 in its DiscoBlog, with io9 Tries to Ice-Nine Discover; Fails. I gotta tell ya’, io9, for laughs and amusement value, so far, Discover is definitely leading.
No, none of this is really news of the science fiction, fantasy, and horror fields. But it is an amusing sidebar. I wonder where it’ll go next.
