Top Box Office Grossers: Fourth Week in December

Variety reports the top 25 movies for the week of 21-27 December in terms of box office take. Can we consider National Treasure: Book of Secrets a genre film? Probably. If so, this week’s new #1 is that genre picture, grossing more than $88.4 million. Last week’s #1 dropped to #2: I Am Legend took in $63.8 million for a two-week total of $167.1 million. Enchanted dropped from #4 to #8, bringing in nearly $10 million in its fifth week for a total of $104.1 million. The Golden Compass dropped faster, from #3 to #9, but still grossing $9.6 million for a three-week total of $54.1 million.
Fred Claus finally fell, after three weeks at #6 it dropped to #16, bringing in $1.3 million for a seven-week total of $71.1 million. Beowulf is down from #12 to #19, grossing $730 thousand for a six-week total of $80.8 million. The Polar Express made more money, but dropped a spot, this week down from #20 to #21 while taking in $600 thousand for a 163-week total of $178.6 million. Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium was down from #17 to #24, earning $350 thousand for a six-week total of $30.8 million.
After four weeks, The Mist dropped out of the top 25.
