Football player Ernie Holmes died in a car crash 17 January 2008, aged 59. He died in rural Texas when the car he was driving alone left the road and rolled several times. At the time of his death, he was an ordained minister living on a ranch Wiergate, Texas.
Holmes played on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defensive line from 1972 to 1977, winning Super Bowl rings in 1974 and 1975. He played part of the 1978 season with the New England Patriots before retiring.
After his football career, Holmes did some acting, including roles in Fright Night (1985) and an episode of The A-Team (1986).
