Agent Michael Kabongo of the OnyxHawke Agency is going to do a slush-reading marathon, which he’s calling “the Winter Workout.” He tried this last year and wound up reading and critiquing 19 first chapters in 24 hours. “Last time, I picked up two clients out of this,” he said.
This time around, he’s promising a full reading and critique of every submission (first chapter, up to fifty pages) of a science fiction, fantasy, or urban fantasy novel he receives between 10PM EST on 4 February and 8AM on 6 February. He’ll be reading for 24 straight hours, and hopes to surpass last year’s 19. If you’ve sufficiently interested him with that first chapter/50 pages, you won’t be getting an instant critique, but rather a note saying he’ll keep reading.
