The Screen Actors Guild announced the nominees for their 14th annual SAG Awards. The winners will be announced on 27 January 2008 in the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California.
As the Los Angeles Times said, “SAG is the first non-critic-centric awards body to pipe in this season. In a sense, it’s the first one that really matters, operating as one of a quartet of major guild kudos bellwethers (namely the producers, directors and writers guilds, which will all announce their nominations in January).” Unfortunately, it’s not looking like a very good year for genre productions.
In fact, the only SAG genre nominees are in the “stunt” categories. For “Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture”, the nominees are: 300, The Bourne Ultimatum, I Am Legend, The Kingdom, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.
The nominees for “Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series” are: 24, Heroes, Lost, Rome, and The Unit.
[Edited 28 January 2008 to note that genre productions were completely shut out of the awards. The winner for Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture was The Bourne Ultimatum, and for Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series was 24. The complete list of winners is available on this page.]
