Chris Garcia is the winner of this year’s TAFF, the TransAtlantic Fan Fund, which “was created in 1953 to provide funds to bring well-known and popular [science fiction] fans familiar to those on both sides of the ocean across the Atlantic. Since that time TAFF has regularly brought North American fans to European conventions and European fans to North American conventions.”
Garcia won a four-way race, beating Chris Barkley, Christian MacGuire, and Linda Deneroff. According to SF Site, “The high density of Chrises in the race apparently did not negate Garcia’s campaign slogan ‘Vote for Chris.'” He plans to arrive in the UK in mid-March to attend Orbital, the 2008 Eastercon, but he’ll also try to attend P-con in Ireland before returning to the US.
There were 174 votes cast, and the administrators note that Garcia won “by a clear majority.”
