Just in time for Thanksgiving, Boom! Studios is releasing three new comic issues on 21 November.
Fall of Cthulhu #8 will be the third installment (of five) of the second arc entitled “The Gathering.” This episode, “Vessel of Gith,” features animal sacrifice, nightmarish creatures doing unpleasant things, and the appearance of a god. Fall of Cthulhu is written by Michael Alan Nelson, with art by Tim Hamilton & Michael Fiffe. There will be two different covers for #8, one by Vatche Mavlian and one by Patrick McEvoy, and they’re both wonderful.
Coming in January, they’ll be releasing the trade paperback version of the first story arc (issues #0-#5). Called Fall of Cthulhu: The Fugue, in this one “Cy is an ordinary guy engaged to a beautiful fiancée when his uncle’s suicide changes his life forever. Consumed with discovering the motive behind his uncle’s sudden and painful death, he finds notes and scribblings about a nonsense word he doesn’t recognize… Cthulhu! Obsessed, he searches for answers to questions no human should ever ask. A horrifying glimpse into a modern-day Lovecraftian world filled with nightmares—and excursions into Lovecraft’s Dreamlands.” The 144-page book will retail for $14.99. Hunter’s Moon #4 starts off with a fairly commonplace car crash, but when the mini-crossbow comes out, you know something strange is afoot. The series is written by James L. White (who won the Academy Award for writing Ray), with art by Sebastian Cardoso. There’s an interview with the author at Silver Bullet Comics.
Left On Mission #5 concludes the mini-series, and features a sharpshooter and flute player, the latter of which has found joy in her many tattoos and playing with the dervishes. The trade paperback edition of the entire run will appear in December or January. This one is written by Boom’s marketing and sales director, Chip Mosher, with art by Francesco Francavilla.
They’ve also announced titles that will be on sale in January, which include:
Dominion #5 by Ross Richie, Keith Giffen, Michael Alan Nelson, and Tim Hamilton. In which “Dick, our beleaguered police officer-turned-city savior, has fallen to the virus. Chicago lies in wreckage and flames. Has this alien Dominion succeeded in conquering the earth?” This is the concluding volume.
Foundation #2 by John Rozum & Chee, in which “The Foundation has now revealed itself to one unlikely man and recruited him into its ranks. Using the lost texts of Nostradamus, the knowledge of the future is theirs… but subject to interpretation. Will they read the text correctly or make a world-ending mistake?”
North Wind #2 by David DiGilio & Alex Cal. This is the story of the effects of global warming, which “has created climate change as a new Ice Age covers the planet. On the glacier that lies atop what was Los Angeles, mankind now burns books for fuel. A despot holds the fate of the human race in his hands, and a rebellious hero must stop him!”
Second Wave will be a 144-page trade paperback collecting the original series by Michael Alan Nelson and Chee. “Mankind held back the first Martian invasion, but then came the Second Wave! Now one seemingly ordinary Earthman, his wife and home taken by the invaders, stands between us and alien forces now immune to mankind’s defenses! What secret does this man hold that will save us from extinction?”
