Denvention 3, the 2008 World Science Fiction Convention, has announced a contest to design the base for next year’s Hugo Awards. The Hugo itself is the iconic silver finned rocket design, but each year, the base of that award changes, usually to reflect the host city or country. Denvention is no exception. They’re accepting entries now which reflect the convention’s theme “One mile closer to the stars” (the convention is, after all, to be held in Denver, Colorado, the “mile high city”). The person who submits the winning design will receive a free attending membership to the convention and will garner the right to present the base on stage at the Hugo Awards Ceremony. The entry deadline is 31 December 2007. Full details are available on this page.
