Joey Bishop, the last surviving member of the Rat Pack, died 17 October 2007 of multiple causes. Born Joseph Abraham Gottlieb in Bronx, New York, on 3 February 1918, he began his professional career as a burlesque performer and stand-up comedian. Bishop was the self-styled “mouse” of the Rat Pack, which included Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford, Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra. He was the last survivor of the group, following Sinatra’s death in 1998.
He was a perennial guest on late-night talk-show television, and for a time was the host of The Joey Bishop Show. His one genre appearance was uncredited as a Guard in the 1967 Get Smart episode “Viva Smart.”
He is survived by his son, actor Larry Bishop (his wife died in 1999).
