Actress and comedian Brett Somers died of stomach and colon cancer on 17 September 2007. Born Audrey Johnston on 11 July 1924 in New Brunswick, Canada, she took her mother’s maiden name for her stage name.
She is perhaps best known for her appearances on the television game show The Match Game. Her genre connection is one appearance on the original Battlestar Galactica. She played Siress Belloby in the 1978 episode “The Magnificent Warriors.”
Somers married actor Jack Klugman in 1953, and they had three children together. She appeared several times in his series The Odd Couple as his ex-wife. They separated in 1974, but never divorced.
In announcing her death, her son, Adam Klugman, said she was caustic, irreverent and a self-declared bohemian. “She maintained her independence till the end, and her irreverence. She died very much at peace.” She is survived by her three children.
