Variety reports the top 25 movies for the week of 17-23 August in terms of box office take. Stardust, which opened last week at #4, dropped to #5, taking in $8.7 million for a two week total of $22.5 million. New release The Invasion opened just behind it, at #6, with a gross of $8.4 million. Underdog dropped from #6 to #8 with $6.3 million, bringing its total up to $34.4 million. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is down from #7 to #9 in its sixth week in release, taking in an additional $5.7 million (including this author’s $11) to bring its total to $280.8 million.
Transformers dropped hard, from #10 to #16, bringing in $2.9 million to bring its seven-week total up to $307.4 million. Evan Alimghty dropped from #19 to #22, taking in $534 thousand to push its nine-week total to $98.6 million.
Skinwalkers lost half its screens in its second week in release, and dropped from #17 to #39. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, and Sunshine all placed above it (but below #25) in their 10th, 13th, and 5th weeks in release, respectively.
