Writer, Editor, Sculptor Sterling E. Lanier Dies

Writer, editor, and sculptor Sterling E. Lanier died on 28 June. Aged 79, he was the editor at Chilton Books in 1965 who championed publication of Frank Herbert’s Dune (at the time, Chilton was known as a publisher of automotive books).
As an author, he wrote The War for the Lot (1969), Hiero’s Journey (1973), The Peculiar Exploits of Brigadier Ffellowes (1977), Menace Under Marswood (1983), The Unforsaken Hiero (1983), and The Curious Quests of Brigadier Ffellowes (1986). He also published several short stories, one of which, “A Father’s Tale,” was a nominee for the 1975 World Fantasy Award for best short story.
Lanier was also at John C. Winston Company, Chilton Books, and McRae-Smith.
