Variety reports the top 25 movies for the week of 13-19 July in terms of box office take. In what will be a surprise to absolutely no one paying any attention, new release Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix topped the charts, grossing $112.7 million this week (and since it opened before the beginning of Variety‘s reporting week, its cumulative box office take is already up to $175.4 million). The wizard pushed last week’s #1 down to #2, but Transformers is still making money. This week, the robots grossed $55.5 million, bringing their total up to $242.5 million. Evan Almighty dropped from #5 to #6, taking in $8.1 million this week for a total of $91 million after 4 weeks in release. 1408 dropped from #6 to #7, but still managed to take in $7.7 million (total of $64.9 million).
After one month in the top ten, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer dropped from #8 to #11, but still managed to earn $2.6 million, bringing its total up to $128.1 million. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End is still on the list after 8 weeks, down this week from #11 to #12, grossing almost $2.2 million this week, for a total of $305.3 million. Shrek the Third dropped from #13 to #15, but stayed in seven figures, this week grossing $1.1 million for a total of $318.5 million in 9 weeks. Spider-Man 3 bounced on the list, from last week’s #21 to this week’s #18, and nearly doubled last week’s gross, to $820 thousand (its 11-week total take is $335.3 million).
