Top Box Office Grossers: First Week of July

Variety reports the top 25 movies for the week of 29 June-5 July in terms of box office take. Evan Almighty, last week’s number one, dropped to third behind the two new releases (Ratatouille and Live Free or Die Hard), taking in $24.4 million for a two-week total of just under $70 million. Last week’s number 2 became this week’s #4, as 1408 made $16.8 million for a two-week total of $46.6 million. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer dropped from #3 to #5 (earning $13.8 million for a total of $119.6 million). Other genre films in the top spots include Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (which dropped from #6 to #8), grossing almost $8 million this week, for a total of $298.7 million).
In its seventh week in release, Shrek the Third dropped out of the top ten, from #8 to #11. It still grossed $4.1 million, raising its total to $315.2 million. Spider-Man 3 is down to #16, taking in $949 thousand (for a total of $334 million). Finally, Disturbia actually climbed the list, from #23 last week to #21 this week, taking in $402 thousand for a total of $79 million after 12 weeks in release.
