Street may be named for Vonnegut

Manhattan’s Community Board 6 has voted to rename the corner of East 48 Street and Second Avenue for the recently deceased Kurt Vonnegut. He lived on East 48 Street near Second Avenue for 40 years, and, according to the New York Sun, “was a community icon. Vonnegut was often seen walking his dog in Dag Hammarskjold Park near the United Nations and sitting on the stoop of his townhouse, thinking, smoking, and nodding to passersby.”
The New York City Council will, later this month, consider an omnibus bill of 50 street co-namings.
