Battlestar Galactica Executive Producer Ron D. Moore, who was serving as Toastmaster for SFWA’s Nebula Awards Banquet, donated his honorarium for the appearance to the Alpha Writers’ Workshop. Moore, who was seated with SFWA Eastern Regional Director (and weekend chairman) Diane Turnshek, handed the envelope containing the honorarium directly to her unopened.
Turnshek founded the Alpha SF/F/H Workshop for Young Writers, which is held for a week ever summer in conjunction with Confluence, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Moore’s donation will be used to supplement the Alpha Scholarship Fund. The application deadline for this summer’s workshop has already passed. The authors-in-residence this year will be Catherine Asaro, Charles Coleman Finlay, Tamora Pierce, and Wen Spencer.
