Wofford College is offering “Shared Worlds,” an eight-day residential camp aimed at teenaged writers interested in science fiction, fantasy, and horror. They program—on the Spartanburg, South Carolina campus—will include lectures and workshops with professionals, and runs from 29 July to 4 August 2007.
The program is designed around a shared world theme, where group of 12 students will choose from science fiction, fantasy, or horror, and will “apply its world to fiction, art, and game design.” To build their shared world, students “will attend overview classes with Wofford College professors in many disciplines, including history, religion, and physics.” Students will also take classes in creative writing, game design, and art.
Visiting speakers include: Doug Chaffee, Richard Dansky, Troy Denning, Scott Hampton, Jim C. Hines, Ken Hite, Greg Keyes, Stephen Leigh, Jeff Mariotte, Jack McDevitt, Scott Nicholson, Laura Resnick, Jeremy Simmons, Jared A. Sorensen, and John Wick. Faculty speakers include: A.K. Anderson, Bill DeMars, Christine Dinkins, Stacey Hettes, Katherine J. Jones, Philip Swicegood, and Clayton Whisnant.
