Juno Books seeking “kickassitude”

Juno Books’s editor Paula Guran notes that “I’m not seeing a lot on contemporary ‘urban fantasy’ (ack! I hate that paranormals are now being called that, but you do what you have to do…) submissions.” She has lots of fantasy, “more sf than I would have expected,” but she really wants to see more “‘kickassitude,’ possible-series books. Especially if there’s something a little ‘different’ about it.”
She asks authors who’ve already submitted such book to not bother reminding her. “Even though responses may not go out, I have probably read it and am considering it. But if you have a completed manuscript of this variety you are thinking about submitting—now is a good time to send in a synopsis and writing sample (like three chapters).”
The full guidelines for submitting to Juno Books are available on this page. Guran also says she’s responded to all submissions received through 6 February 2007.
