Biographer Emily W. Sunstein

Biographer Emily W. Sunstein died from complications of autoimmune vasculitis (an inflammation of the blood vessels) on 21 April 2007. Born in Dallas, Texas, on 28 April 1924, she lived for many years in Philadelpahia. She was best known for her 1975 biography A Different Face: The Life of Mary Wollstonecraft and her 1989 biography Mary Shelley: Romance and Reality. Wollstonecraft (1759-97) was the British author and feminist who died a few days after the birth of her daughter, Shelley. Shelley (1797-1851) was born Mary Wollstonecraft, later married Percy Bysshe Shelley, and wrote Frankenstein, one of the first science fiction novels. The Shelley biography won the 1989 Modern Langauge Association Prize for Independent Scholars.
