Lucasfilm and the USPS team up for droid mail

The Post Office is getting involved in the 30th anniversary Star Wars hype. Specifically, “hundreds of official US Postal Service blue collection boxes will be transformed into Star Wars character R2-D2 look-alikes to promote an exciting new adventure on which the US Postal Service is embarking on with Lucasfilm Ltd.”
The USPS tells us that “the R2-D2 collection boxes will temporarily replace boxes in highly visible locations across the country [this reporter hasn’t yet spotted any]. Customers can, of course drop mail into them just like any other of our 280,000 collection boxes, but there’s a striking difference visually. Not only do the R2-D2 boxes look like the ever-popular Star Wars character, they feature the address of a website that gives clues about the real meaning behind this unprecedented promotion.” Of course that url, www.uspsjedimaster.com gives just a teaser right now, though the USPS claims all will be revealed on 28 March.
Star Wars, as it was originally titled (it was later retitled Star Wars: Episode 4: A New Hope) debuted in movie theaters on 25 May 1977.
