Clarion West Application Deadline Approaching

The Clarion West Writers Workshop is an intensive, six-week workshop designed to help prepare people “for a professional career as a writer of speculative fiction. Short fiction is the workshop’s focus, with emphasis on science fiction, fantasy, and horror.” Attendees should be “prepared to write several new stories during the course of the workshop, to experiment and take artistic risks, and to give and receive constructive criticism.”
Each week, the workshop is taught by a different instructor, each a highly regarded author or editor. Class size is limited to 18 students. Instructors “work closely with students, critiquing stories, leading class discussions on technique and other professional concerns, and holding individual or small-group conferences.” This year’s instructors are: Nancy Kress, Larissa Lai, Graham Joyce, Kelley Eskridge, Patrick Nielsen Hayden, and Samuel R. Delany.
The total cost to attend the workshop is $2900 (which includes $1700 for tuition and $1200 for room and partial board). All students stay in the workshop residence. Breakfast and most weekday meals are included.
This year, Clarion West will be held 17 June-27 July in Seattle, Washington. This year’s application deadline is very strictly 1 April at 11:59PM PDT. Full application and workshop details are available on the web at clarionwest.org/website/cat_workshop.
